<fullstory>

Humans

Since the late forties and early fifties, UFO’s have been a topic of controversy. Whispers and rumors of alien abduction and interaction have been rampant. Ten years ago, we all learned for certain that we weren't alone in the universe when aliens attacked our world. They attempted to exterminate us by destroying our civilization from city-sized ships followed by a ground invasion. The humans banded together and found a central weakness in their defenses and the aliens were defeated before the ground invasion could be realized. This struggle was brilliantly explained in the Documentary film “Independence Day”.

Now, ten years later, the threat from the aliens has re-emerged. They have regrouped and changed strategy. A ground invasion is now the primary offensive strategy for the aliens. Aliens have landed in large groups of troops throughout the world with the intention of exterminating all humans.

We must defend our planet. And it starts right here. If we can prevent the aliens from getting a solid foothold, maybe, just maybe we can buy enough time to allow us to find another weakness and rid us of them forever.

The aliens want our land. They want our resources. They have no use for us. They will show no mercy for us. We need to be strong. We need to be brave. We need to rally our friends, our brothers, our sisters, our neighbors. Everyone will be needed to fight this terrible enemy.

Aliens (translated)

Our time has finally come. We have been preparing for this for seventy years. Ten years ago, we made our first attempt to rid the universe of the useless slugs that currently control the resources of Earth. Unfortunately, our previous attack plan was vulnerable to a central counter-attack. The humans were more resourceful than we had anticipated and discovered this weakness.

This time around, it will not be so easy for the humans. We will focus primarily on a ground attack, sending out legions of soldiers to systematically exterminate the human scum one-by-one. We will not only show them that we are superior fighters, but that we are a superior species.

We deserve this planet. Weaker species such as these humans have no right to keep such an abundant place.

Gerry's Castle Conquest Log

			<fullstory>Date: 27 Apr 2007
Time: 1630hrs
Place: EMR Paintball: Home of Blue’s Crew & the infamous/notorious event - Castle Conquest

Upon arriving in the somewhat desolated area of the Endless Mountain Region in Pennsylvania, I was unaware of what lay in store for me. Having never been involved in such a grand scale, full on assault, I was a bit excited to say the least. Having driven a number of hours as part of a convoy complete with 2-way radios for communications between lead and tail...we were fully prepared for a weekend of play.

Horror Show arrives on scene.

Mud...Mud...Mud. What can I say? The situation fit the plan. 4-wheel drive vehicles getting stuck, people sliding and our trailer right alongside it...stuck! It was the beginning of a truly unique weekend.

Once we set up our bunkhouse and completed a quick stow of gear, off we went to do some recon of the venue and plan our strategy for the event.

Castle AAARRGH....as I have come to know it...is a very finely built, 30,000 square foot, two story structure complete with towers on each of the four corners. As we walked around, we planned our attack, but realized that this was to be no easy feat. Windows are small with no protection from incoming paint once you leave the tree line, and worst of all, 200 well placed defenders hell-bent on protecting their territory. The way to the assault lies either through a simulated air strip field (suicide), by blazing a path through the Tippmann Town (suicide), or by skirting the village’s edge down the tapeline to assault from the road above Wall 2. Although this was still a kamikaze move, we felt as though this was our best course for success (or a much slower suicide).

Having spent a couple of hours surveying the terrain and deciding on a Wall 2 assault, we decided to call it a day and get ready for some hot and heavy paint slinging on Saturday. For the rest of the night, we prepared our gear and began some heavy duty “mental preparation”.

Date: 28 Apr 2007
Time: 0630hrs
Place: Bunkhouse Row

Having not been very successful at getting much sleep, some of us were up way too late doing stealthy sticker tagging of our sister team Pub Crawling and generally raising a ruckus, quite to the dismay of our illustrious leader. As a result, in the morning, we struggled to get up and get ourselves motivated. When we finally pulled our Horror Show Jerseys over our heads and strapped on our packs all signs of the night before were erased from our minds and we began to focus. It was then, that a smile appeared from not one but every one of us. We knew at that time, it was going to Rock!

It was a good 5 minute walk, from Bunkhouse row to our staging area. In between the cabins, the staging area and air fill stations, you could see a very diverse group of people with an even more diverse group of marker, uniform, and attitude. Some were simply carrying paint grenades, wearing jeans and combat boots. I saw ghilie suits, superman capes, and mixed in the middle were uniforms of all color and size, each uniform carrying the name of the team.

Standing out I saw three names: Horror Show, Pub Crawling, and Blue’s Crew. Among these, two Planet Eclipse teams...about to go head to head...marker against marker...Etek against Etek. One on the inside...one on the outside...just who will be the winner? Time will tell.

Date: 28 Apr 2007
Time: 1100hrs
Place: Game time

As planned, we went true to form, utilizing our game plan. We worked our way successfully around the town not losing a single person. We climbed the hill and looked down at our target, Wall 2. From the beginning, clear through the end, the transformation of the wall from grey to blue was amazing to witness. We had 4 hours to breach the wall and remove props from the courtyard. Alas, this was not to happen. The sheer determination of the folks on the inside of the wall proved to be a bit stronger than the 1000 some odd players on the outside. We never did get to see our buddies from Pub Crawling. Their position within the castle was to protect Wall 4 on the opposite end of the courtyard from ours. It was a spectacle I will never forget. No matter what strategy we employed, we could not manage to get inside. There were a number of instances where groups were trying to enter the doorway only to get mowed down by crossfire. Unfortunately, we had various obstacles slowing our attack, at different times. It ranged from bodies halting mid run only to turn around and beat feet in retreat to avoid the hail of paint, to players that were afraid to take the plunge into the icy depths. In the end, out and out guts and glory prevailed. The defenders stood tall and successfully held their ground.

At one point, we felt so fired up and confident that we were going to take them that, Blue, himself, overheard us and came up to us. He graciously asked us if our two teams could meet up and go for a fierce push. Of course, we were only too happy to join the mix. We grouped up and made a push down the road to assault the corner of Wall 1 and 2. A good portion of the group managed to breech the wall, but there was no giving on the part of the defenders, we were held in check.

Through all of this I can say, out of two cases of paint, while running through the woods, diving, crawling, and shooting on the run...I had the time of my life. My Eclipse Etek did not let me down at all. I went the entire day only requiring 2 fills on my 68/4500. The efficiency of the marker was phenomenal, as well as the rate of fire. When I wanted to rip a good stream it was right on point and would go as fast as I could pull the trigger without one ball break the entire day.

Congratulations are in order for the defenders of Castle Conquest XXIII. Our thanks go out to Blue, Deuce, and the EMR family for putting on a great event.

See you in the woods...

<fullstory>Team Horror Show descended on EMR Paintball with a fury. Trigger fingers itching to get on the field. 800 other ballers would join us in our attack on Castle AAARRGH, at CASTLE CONQUEST XXIII. We were not strangers to EMR Scenario games, but the Castle Conquest events are something all together different. We would need a much more aggressive game plan to breach the walls, and we were ready for the challenge.

Since we arrived Friday afternoon, Horror Show had plenty of time to purchase paint, fill tanks, and prepare our gear. Planet Eclipse tech guru Gerry Bates, provided the team with some quick Etek basic training as many of our members are new to the markers. They were all pleasantly surprised at the easy care needed to keep the Etek running at full tilt.

On the other side, among the 200 or so defenders would be the very formidable and included fellow Planet Eclipse team Pub Crawling. We were all geared up for some Etek on Etek crime, but they were assigned to "Wall 4" of Castle AAARRGH, on the complete other side from where we were assigned to attack, "Wall 2". This would limit our contact, and turned out to work against the Attackers. As I understand it, Pub Crawling had great success in holding their wall, preventing our fellow attackers from making much headway.

Murphy's Law popped in to see how everything was going, resulting in a mishap with the Air Compressor set up. What followed was a delay in Compressed Air refills, and long lines. From my point of view, it seemed like the amount of players on the field was diminished since players couldn't get back on the field in a timely fashion.

If you have ever wondered what all the fuss about the great efficiency the Ego & Etek provides is, this was a classic situation. Horror Show planned an all out assault that was over heard by Mike "Blue" Hanse who assembled his Blue's Crew and joined us. We wanted to take advantage of what we saw as a prime opportunity, and since we could get so many shots before needing air refills pressed on the attack.

To our dismay we were unable to gain an advantage. The day ended poorly for the attackers, but I am sure that every player who had the pleasure of using an Ego marker at this event had their good time saved but a superior marker.

Horror Show is honored, and proud to represent Planet Eclipse products!

<fullstory>It was grey, Castle AAARRGH was anyway until Horror Show and their Eteks hit the field. That’s when the poor castle got a blue make over, especially on Wall 2. Once Horror Show congregated on that wall, let’s just say it wasn’t pretty. With the help of Blue’s Crew and the Fox4 Army, Wall 2 took a continuous pounding all day. After speaking with some of the defenders we found out that Wall 2 is where they received most of their troubles from. Several times attackers were able to make their way down to the wall and came close to breaching it. However, to their credit, the defenders were able to stay strong, even in the face of a total of close to 1000 attackers.

While no props were ever snagged off of Wall 2 because of the increased security by the defenders, Horror Show’s relentless assault on Wall 2 made the perfect distraction for some sly boys to slip in the back door and grab some props. Best of all the trusted paint slinging Eteks from Planet Eclipse stayed strong all day without one single problem. And with the way they shoot, it’s no wonder the castle was dripping a different color come the day’s end. So all in all it was a great day of fun, topped off by getting to play with some great players to shoot up the opposition with.

Horror Show is as much a club as a team with almost 30 members. To some paintball is a game, to others paintball is a sport. It is fun, it is family, and it is life. To members of team Horror Show it is all of the above. They participate in all types of paintball play; it doesn't really matter if it is woods ball, speedball, tournament play or scenario. Horror Show just loves to play.

Not only does Horror Show play, but they also produce events. Last year's "28 Days After" held at Fox 4 Paintball in Upton, MA was produced by team manager "Uncle Ray" and it was a great success. The guys will be producing the May 07 event at Fox 4, The Matrix "Repainted". Don't miss it!

"Joining the Planet Eclipse family is a great milestone for our organization." said team captain Dave Adams, "I am always proud at how my guys represent the team, and our sponsors, both on and off the field. It is very refreshing to have a company like Planet Eclipse recognize our efforts, and I am looking forward to great things to come."

Horror Show will be shooting the ETEK line of markers, as well as wearing Planet Eclipse gear. They are a great bunch of guys, so make sure you say hello when you see them this year.

Members of Horror Show cover a broad spectrum of ages, and skill levels. They are first year players, veteran weekend warriors, as well as participants in the Professional leagues.

<fullstory>We Have Had Enough

The Hatfields and McCoys are fighting again. This is a feud that started generations ago and I doubt anyone living can still remember why they even fight. There is a bigger problem, though: The federal government is suspicious that these two families are trying to acquire and build their own stills for moonshine production. As we all know, moonshine production evades the federal liquor tax laws, and the federal government does NOT handle tax evasion lightly. As a response, Horror Show was employed by the federal government as "Revenuers" to try and stamp out this production.

It is late in the day on August 19th. Unhappy with the reports that both the Hatfields and McCoys are still producing moonshine, the bosses in the federal government give the orders to do WHATEVER is necessary to sweep through the land and stop ALL moonshine production BY FORCE. For the majority of Revenuers, this was welcome news since it is a drastic change from previous tactics, which relied heavily on negotiation and diplomacy. We were targets all day, but we had to be careful to make sure that our actions did not jeopardize any diplomacy or negotiation talks. But now it's all changed. Now... we to do it OUR way. We have had enough.

Mind you, this is no small task. There are only 15 Revenuers and there are approximately 400 Hatfields/McCoys. We need to march through the land of BOTH these teams, destroy their stills, and "neutralize" any resistance along the way. The Hatfields were closest to the Revenuers base of operations, so they were first on the list. As we are marching onto Hatfield's land, we are met by Pappa Hatfield. Our leader, Uncle Ray, had been in contact with Pappa Hatfield several times throughout the day during the diplomatic phase of our operations. Uncle Ray took Pappa aside, and I'm not really sure how it happened, but an argument broke out and Pappa ended up shot dead. Nobody can beat Uncle Ray to the trigger. Pappa found out the hard way.

So, now we continue marching to the back of the Hatfield's property to where we believe they are producing moonshine. All of a sudden, we are ambushed. We're taking heavy fire from three directions and four of our agents are wounded. After the initial shock of the ambush, the Revenuers organize and easily dispense of the remaining defenders as well as destroy their moonshine still. The wounded walk back to base and get their wounds cleaned up and return to the group, as we will need EVERYONE to complete this mission. And we're now even close to completing it.

Next, we need to get to the McCoy's moonshine still. The quickest route to the McCoy's property was to go straight through the Hatfield's property. So that's what we did. We kept marching though the Hatfield's property, neutralizing any resistance in the process. We cross the line onto the McCoy's property and we see some disturbing sights. Apparently, the McCoys have called in reinforcements for their fight against the Hatfields and/or the Revenuers. It was at this point that the decision was made to split the Revenuers and send a small team of men to destroy the still while the others remain to fight off the existing resistance from the McCoys.

So, six of us break off to go covertly to the back of the McCoy's property and find their still. As we are approaching the back corner of their property, we spot four men. They have already seen us, but have not engaged. This is strange... but the Revenuers have a task and need to complete it, so we push forward without any shots fired. As we keep pushing, the four men keep falling back. What are they waiting for? Then it dawns on me, they are waiting for reinforcements. So we send our scout out to peek on the masses of McCoys that were entering when we split. The scout gives us the bad news... the reinforcements are coming this way.

We have no choice... Time to engage those four men, destroy the still, and get out of there AS FAST AS POSSIBLE. We've only got a couple minutes to accomplish these goals or we will be cornered in the back of the property with DOZENS of McCoys swarming us. So the order was given. We opened fire and quickly dispensed with the four men. We then spotted their still and destroyed it. Now, we need to find a way out. At this point, the first line of reinforcements was engaging a couple of our guys. The only chance we had was to try and go back the way we came. So the order was given to fall back. We managed to creep our way out of the corner and fight our way back to the rest of the Revenuers, who continued to fight the McCoys. Mission accomplished. Six men went in, destroyed the still, six men came out. Zero dead. Zero wounded. It can't get better than that. Or can it...

So with our mission of destroying both stills accomplished, the Revenuers only remaining task was to get back home. So, as we are fighting our way back towards our home base, we see the strangest thing... a white flag. WHAT???!!!??? Here was an unarmed McCoy, walking out into the middle of a battlefield, waving a white flag, and yelling "CEASE FIRE!" We stopped firing. Not because of this guy yelling, but more from the shock of the realization that this team of 15 guys has just managed to have a group of 50+ men give up and give us safe passage through their property. With our mission of destroying the stills accomplished, we decided to accept their surrender and we walked home without incident. I've never seen anything like it, and probably never will again.

The Hatfields and McCoys will probably be feuding for many years to come, but they both learned a very valuable lesson that afternoon: Don't mess with the government's tax revenue. If you do, they just might hire Horror Show again to straighten things out.
